well i want to introduce you to this amazing book (which as soon as i will finish this post i’m going here to order it…)

Here are more than 700 extraordinary posters from the archives of GigPosters.com — the Internet’s premier destination for concert poster art. With the rising popularity of MP3 files and streaming digital music—and the near-extinction of traditional album art—concert posters have become the most important visual representation of contemporary music.

Gig Posters Volume I celebrates this dynamic medium with contributions from 101 top designers—including Rob Jones of Animal Rummy, Steve Walters, Jay Ryan, Gary Houston, Aesthetic Apparatus, Patent Pending Industries, and many more. Throughout the book, their voices offer fascinating commentary and behind-the-scenes information about the creation of gig posters.

“Using animation, projections and her own moving shadow, Miwa Matreyek performs a gorgeous, meditative piece about inner and outer discovery. Take a quiet 10 minutes and dive in. With music from Anna Oxygen, Mirah, Caroline Lufkin and Mileece.

Miwa Matreyek creates performances where real shapes and virtual images trade places, amid layers of animation, video and live bodies.” more on TED (TED Global 2010 performance)

“Nothing explains the film better than the film itself. Nonetheless, here is a concise and vaguely pretentious synopsis:

The film charts the development of a young man as he navigates his way through an impressionistic landscape in search of an elusive monster which is intent on destroying his childhood home. Lost and confused for the most part, he nonetheless uncovers the beast; a creature whose origins are both terrifying and liberating.”

Nina Simone

Nine years ago, 21st of April 2003 Eunice Kathleen Waymon, better known with her stage name Nina Simone, at the age of 70 says goodbye leaving behind about 40 recorded albums.

The sixth of eight children in a poor family, she began playing piano at age three; the first song she learned was “God Be With You, Till We Meet Again”. Demonstrating a talent with the instrument, she performed at her local church, but her concert debut, a classical recital, was given when she was twelve. Simone later said that during this performance her parents, who had taken seats in the front row, were forced to move to the back of the hall to make way for white people. Simone said she refused to play until her parents were moved back to the front, and that the incident contributed to her later involvement in the civil rights movement.
